Make Them Laugh and They Will Listen
I have always been a firm believer in using humor in all aspects of life, including business. After all, if we don’t laugh at some things, we will cry, right? The Social Media Examiner agrees with me. Check out: 5 Tips for Using Humor in Your Social Media Activities and watch their videos – they are really funny.
What is it about laughing that makes it “work”?
- Laughter releases a chemical called serotonin into our brains. This is often called the ‘feel good’ hormone because that is the effect it has on our feelings.
- Laughter eases stress and helps relax us. You can’t be tense and stressed while laughing. Try it and see for yourself.
- Researchers have found that laughter can also help our immune system work better – a pretty good side-effect.
Many of you know that I create videos with goofy images flying in and out. Imagine my surprise when I got a call from a gentleman working in a global investment firm. The company he works for is running a video contest for its 8000 employees to see who can come up with the best video about the advantages this firm offers. He told me he found my videos on Youtube and wanted one just like that. I asked him if he was sure he wanted something that wacky LOL – after all, financial firms are usually a tad more conservative. He assured me that this is what he wanted – something different, something unique, something to stand out. So that is what he got and is quite pleased with his video. The contest winner will be announced next month. How neat would it be it he won? So without further ado, I present to you, a generic version of his video, minus some neat animations I used for him but am unable to share because he does not own the company and can’t use their logo and branding. But before I do, you better laugh or that lady up there will hit you with her cane

Totally agree about humour and laughter Julie. After reading a number of blog posts over the last couple of weeks it seems quite a few have forgotten to chill out, not take themselves so seriously and just have a laugh. I hope the video wins.
Hi Susan. LOL I like that – “chill out” – yes – some people do take things a little too seriously and could benefit from loosening up a bit. Thanks – me (and him) too!
This is great Julie! Congratulations. I hope he wins. Even if he doesn’t, you’ve won with a new client and some great exposure.
Good job.
Hi Sherryl. Thanks so much. As usual, the video was a lot of fun to make!
LOVED the lady with the cane and very much appreciated the biology lesson. Bring on the Seratonin! Good luck to you and your client with the contest. The (edited) video was a great one as usual.
Hey Keyuri, isn’t she funny? I wouldn’t want to get hit with her cane
Thanks so much for stopping by. I need to pay you a visit really soon!
Good music, great graphics and message! I’m hooked. I agree. Say it with video makes more sense that typing 1000 words. I wonder if my high school English teacher would agree!
Inspiration and laughter are both necessary in our everyday lives. I love having access to HBO GO. I get to watch my comedy shows, even though some are too sarcastic and I truly enjoy having access to sites like TED.
If that woman with the kane hits me, I’m hitting back. J/K
Hi Angie – I am sure you would too LOL
You are hooked? You are ready to start using more videos?
I am sure your high school English teacher would NOT agree! I don’t have HBO GO – what is that?
I absolutely 100% agree! Making people laugh is a lasting experience that is not easily forgotten. You can buy someone a nice dinner or send them a nice thank you card with some cash, but nothing works best than sharing something funny and making them laugh their butt off. Congrats on the opportunity and I hope it wins!
Hi Dennis, I am not sure I agree with one thing you said – the part about sending a thank you card with some cash – I think I would remember that
Humour is a very important thing in life, and also a powerful “weapon” and strategy that you can use to fullfill your tasks. I remember when I had an online T-shirt shop with funny messages on the T-shirts, I always thought humour can bring people closer, including customer and marketers.
I enjoyed watching your video, thanks for sharing…Hope more will come…
Thanks hannamay! You can be assured there will be more videos. I just took a look at your website. You have some really gorgeous photos. Have you thought about putting them into a video? There are many free sites that will allow you to do that. Check out: http://myvideotalkproduction.com/cherished-memories/ for a few suggestions and thanks for stopping by my blog
Hi Julie — you are so creative! I enjoyed your video. Humor is so important to enjoying life. And laughing at yourself maybe the best tonic. I not only laugh but talk to myself, “Hey how could you have done something so dumb?” Then I laugh and remember I’m not perfect. Along with humor is the power of a smile. When you meet someone and s/he gives you a big smile, doesn’t that make you feel really good? People want to be around happy people with a sense of humor. Who wants to hang out with grouches?
Hi Jeannette. So nice to see you here
Hey we have something in common: I talk to myself ALL the time. So much so that when there is someone else here and I am ACTUALLY talking to them – they don’t answer me as they assume I am talking to myself! I “hear” you – I have been a grouch the last few days and there is no one here LOL
I see a quiz I need to take…. heading over now!
