groundhogDo you wake up every morning and wonder if today is really yesterday?  What is really different?

You have your usual morning routine that you follow every day and if you are self-employed, your weekends are no different than your weekdays. You wake up, have a cup of coffee, take a shower, get dressed, and start your day.

If you are a self-employed Internet marketing consultant, you sit down at your computer, see the 100's of emails from Linkedin discussions, junk mail, advertisements, advertisements disguised as true content emails, perhaps a few emails from friends and family, etc, etc, etc. You open a few of the Linkedin discussion emails and see the same discussions you saw yesterday and the day before that. Some of these discussions go on for months – some get pretty heated which actually adds a little excitement to the usual stuff.

So what can you do to avoid living the life of the main character in the movie “Groundhog Day”? Laughter is a great escape. Think of something you did recently that was stupid and laugh at yourself. Come on, everyone does something stupid sometimes, some more than others. Admit it, you are no different. How often do we chastise the driver who cuts us off because they didn’t want to miss their exit? Haven’t you done something similar while driving? I know you have – we all have.

I remember once accidentally (ok – carelessly) cutting a woman off – years ago. Boy was I embarrassed when that same woman turned into the same nursery school to pick up her daughter! But what can you do except apologize, right? You can also think of something stupid someone else did – THAT is real easy to find. Turn on the TV for many things to laugh at. But the TV offers many things not to laugh at too – the horror of what some people do to others is astounding.

What do you do to make each day a little different than the day before? Inquiring minds want to know….

  1. I find myself overwhelmed one too many times with multiple ideas, interests and yes laughter is a great escape. In this case, when stress is building up, you have to follow a simple plan:

    1. Money doesn’t buy happiness and you can’t take your wealth with you in the afterlife. The Egyptians tried it and I haven’t heard of any success stories. Small Business Owners sometimes work like it’s going out of style just to make that almighty dollar or maybe it’s because they haven’t figured out how to use their time efficiently or be profitable. The key for small business owner is to stay focus. Try not to do too many things and focus on the activities that lead to the best results.

    2. Clean out the digital clutter! This means, UNSUBCRIBE FROM lists and autoemails that are taking up your productivity time. Or change the frequency in which the emails comes to you from daily to weekly or monthly. Or only check email I dare day.

    3. Have a clear set of goals and a detailed action plan. Copy someone else’s successful business model if necessary.

    4. Work hard, play harder. Stay in the moment. When you’re with family and friends and work calls, silence that blackberry. Smart phone are no different. They too need time to rest. All this technology makes people frazzled and impatient.

    5. Anything worth doing takes time. I think you said it best in one of your videos. Rome was not built in one day.

  2. You are so right and thank you for your well-thought out response. I particularly agree with your suggestion about unsubscribing and getting rid of the “clutter”. I have found that after spending a little time on different networking sites, that some definitely offer more value and engagement than others. Some offer absolutely nothing except tons of spam – I stay away from those. Check out my latest post at http://www.newhorizons123.com/wordpress/?p=834

Again you are so right that family and friends are what really matter in this life. We sometimes get caught up in the frenzy and forget about what really matters.

And I am glad you watched, enjoyed and got something out of my video :) @ bizintros.net:
