From “Blah” to “Wow”

Using Video Animations is a great way to entertain and inform your target market; they also help boost your conversion rate and increase sales. Animated videos are a cost-effective and efficient way to advertise your business in unique and creative ways. Remember, you only have about 3 seconds to capture and grab your viewer’s attention so it is important to use that incredibly small amount of time wisely!

The Power of Video & Customized Animations to Promote Your Brand

Everyone is overwhelmed with too much to do and not enough time to do it. We are all also inundated by so much advertising that most of what we hear falls on deaf ears. Rather than read about something we are interested in, most people would prefer to watch the same information. When given the choice between a human voice and something stimulating and eye-catching – the latter will win hands-down! Human beings like to be entertained. What better way to get what you want (more sales) by giving them what they want (entertainment)? Using entertaining video animations will increase the length of time people will listen to your message and increase the chances that you will get a sale either at that point in time, or later on when the potential buyer is ready to make a purchase, because “they” will remember “you”.

Consider this scenario. You have a somewhat complicated product to sell. You create a detailed PowerPoint presentation outlining the features and benefits of your product. Let’s even say that you get traffic to that presentation. Chances are the person who starts to watch your presentation is a potential customer or why else would they be on your site where the presentation is being housed? Now let’s consider that you have at least a few competitors. Your potential customer clicks “start” and immediately hears a human voice simply talking; their mind starts to wander and you have lost their attention. When they remember what they were looking for and at, they are already off to another site – probably your competitor’s site, to find something engaging enough to hold their attention so that they will “hear” the features and benefits of the product they are looking for. However, if you add some Pizzaz to your presentation, you will grab their attention and they will hang out longer to hear what you have to say.

If you grab people’s attention with engaging content, they are more likely to hang around longer JUST because it is creative, different, and memorable! Therefore, it is more likely that they will “listen” to your message. Your video can grab their attention visually at first – sometimes something a little out-of-the-box will do the trick. Now that you have their attention, if you use music, you are now engaging another one of their senses; the more senses your message engages, the more memorable your message. Voices alone can turn to Charlie Brown’s “whah whah whah whah” (unless the speaker is extremely engaging!).

A very large percentage of people prefer to receive information visually, so adding images, graphs, and cartoons to your video, will increase the likelihood that they will “listen to” and “hear” your message. In addition, visuals help store information in long-term memory better than text.

Music evokes emotions in people and has a powerful impact on the brain. Because purchase decisions are based on emotion (“What’s in it for me”?), music in your videos will enhance their ability to evoke an emotion in the viewer which is more likely to lead to a sale.

Let’s face it, learning can be boring. However, if you enhance your lesson or marketing message with creativity and entertainment, “they” are more likely to listen. If your videos are animated and there is a lot of action, this will also hold someone’s attention more than either text alone or a standard talking-head video.

Laughter is the world’s best medicine and a quick way to long-term memory. If you use humor in your videos, as long as it is appropriate and relevant, they are more likely to be remembered.

Have you used video animations in your marketing? May I strongly suggest you take a look at Presentermedia. They offer an incredible amount of valuable animated images, videos, and PowerPoint Presentations at an incredibly low annual cost that will truly knock your socks off! Check it out!

Guest Post by David L. Sahud (my dad)

dad and pupHardly a day goes by when some neophyte doesn’t try to partake of my financial wisdom. Let’s see, there’s Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, The Donald and The David. There aren’t too many of us left. The Carnegies, Rockefellers and the Mellons have left their fortunes to unworthy off-springs, so we are carrying the torch in today’s world. Of the four, only Trump and Sahud have devoted most of our talents toward real estate.

Donald and I made our entrance to the Atlantic City market at about the same time. He pushed to buy the new Hilton Hotel on the Bay, because one of the Hilton directors was found to be on the “Unacceptable List” of the NJ Gambling Commission. It turned out to be a distress sale and Donald was right on the spot. I, on the other hand, being of higher ethical standards, did not choose to be the beneficiary of ill-gotten cost advantages. I bought a new three bedroom condo right on the beach in Brigantine (just over a small bridge from Atlantic City) for list price. Those were the early days of Atlantic City gambling and there was no doubt that real estate values were going to soar. I was convinced that I had made a brilliant investment, while Trump was struggling to salvage a fledgling hotel.

So we proceeded to furnish our beach front condo lavishly and awaited the onrush of guests, all of whom used it as a base for exploring the new Atlantic City. Our condo became a free hotel for friends and relatives, who graciously accepted the room and board, dashing off to the casinos with the last bite of free food still in their mouths. Judy served as cook and maid, with me as a non-handy handyman. Unfortunately, we were not blessed with as large a staff as Trump and wore ourselves out.

Three years later, with Atlantic City not growing fast enough for us, we decided to sell our condo. This took brilliant planning, since we were at the beginning of a real estate crash in Atlantic City. Four condominiums in Brigantine ceased construction and went bankrupt. It took several months to find a buyer for our elegant condo. We finally found one named Sal Smith (not his real name to protect my ass), from Reading Pennsylvania, who was a close friend of the heavyweight champion, Larry Holmes. He was 250 pounds of solid muscle, with knuckles dragging. It didn’t take long for me to realize that he was not a Cum Laude graduate of Harvard. His raspy voice and snappy clothes were reminiscent of many cast members of “The Godfather.” With his close ties to the crooked boxing industry, I was convinced that if he wasn’t a member of the mob…..then I am Winston Churchill.

His “Wife” was an unadulterated “Bimbo,” with a shrieking expletive-laden speech pattern, chewing gum like a cow. She was definitely a “Moll” from central casting. She leaped off our ground floor deck to assure herself that we were really on the beach and brought three pounds of sand into out carpeted living room. Hopefully it will be her living room – full of sand.

While I was thrilled to sell the condo and lose lots of money, the closing was an episode of “The Sopranos.” Marie Smith (not her real name for same reason) was screaming and cursing at the three teen age kids (of undetermined origin) and Sal was telling her to shut up. The payoff was even stranger. Sal handed over five certified checks from five different banks totalling the purchase price. So while Donald was wrestling with men of ill-repute at the Hilton, I was probably trading in stolen money.

Fast forward to 2005. One late October morning, over our usual breakfast of chitlins and hog fat, Judy turned to me and said, “We should sell our house and move into a retirement community.” The stairs were getting to be too much for us. The neighborhood had changed in 44 years and we hardly knew our neighbors.

I answered, “OK, but could you let me finish my breakfast and give me a few hours to work it out?” She said, “Yes, but don’t procrastinate like you usually do.”

Ignoring the sarcasm, I set out to work. Google presented me with a Del Webb-Pulte Retirement Community being built in a hamlet called Wanaque, New Jersey. This god-forsaken place was only 35 miles from our home in New City. Two hours later, we were in the sales office. Twelve minutes thereafter we wrote a binder check for $1000, with a 10% deposit two weeks later. The price was right and we could sell our house in the middle of a real estate boom in New City. Two houses on the block were sold for outrageously high prices. We called a realtor and she recommended we wait until we returned from Florida in the spring before putting the house up for sale.

But the drive from Florida must have taken longer than I thought. On our arrival, we saw three comparable houses for sale. The prices were the October prices minus $100,000. WWDD- What would Donald do? First of all, he wouldn’t have committed to a new place without selling the old one (although he didn’t exactly have the mark of success stamped on his casino bankruptcies).

As he saying goes, “When you have lemons you make Tortellini Alfredo,” (or something like that). So we put our house on the market for $5000 less than the other three houses.

Now all we had to do was wait for the thundering herd of buyers. Unfortunately the hoof beats were few and far between. For every one of the nine viewers, we huddled in the corner of our den, like orphans in a storm and kept quiet, unless questioned. We heard doors opening and closing, shoes thumping and voices ringing as they walked right past us. Some visitors and agents were very complimentary about the condition of the 44 year old house. There were obviously futile questions like, “Where is the swimming pool?” or “Why is the master bedroom so small?” or “What- no fireplace?” or “Why is the bedroom on the second floor?”

One Chinese engineer being transferred from Boston asked if we would throw in the baby grand piano. Little did he know that I would have been glad to even throw in five grandchildren and two dogs.. But I played it cool and told him it was negotiable. He never came back. Word has it that he bought a much cheaper house.

Prospect number 9 gave me an opportunity to demonstrate my marketing skills. A Chinese UN employee in his fifties watched his adopted five year old daughter leap up the stairs ahead of him. As she ascended to the top, she saw our large deck and wooded backyard and shouted “Daddy I love it!” From then on I never took my eyes off the little girl, smiling, winking and holding my wallet in my hand. (She will be on my payroll forever). Mr. Smith (also not his real name to protect all of us) made us an offer that night.

We settled on the price through the agents. There were three closing postponements due to hitches with his buyer. Visions of having to default on our condo flashed before us. I wanted to discuss the situation with him directly to better understand the status. But his lawyer and his agent held him hostage for fear that I might upset him.

When I finally spoke to him on the walk-through before closing, he was a nervous wreck. He had been through the same insecurities as us. In fact he asked if we could leave the front door unlocked so that the movers could enter during the closing. My answer, “It’s your house.”

In the meantime, Donald trump came out of bankruptcy and I began to ponder my next move. Perhaps we could build a casino in beautiful downtown Wanaque, in back of the garbage dump?

Some Insights into the “How” of using Video

video insightsYou have been hearing from me and others for quite some time now that you NEED to be using video in your brand promotion. But how and in what ways can you actually do this?

I have launched a new website called Say it With Video that includes examples of the different ways you can use video including: business profile videos, product videos, article/post videos, and motivational videos. In addition, as I have incorporated another service into my video creating arsenal, Turn Your Cherished Family Memories into Video offers some free ways to create videos that you might find helpful.

Below is a video that will show you some of the different ways you can utilize the  power of video in your small business. Pop quiz: How many times do I use the word “actually”? LOL Note to self: DON’T say “actually” more than two times. :)

Web Academy

They meet online, they network, they exchange ideas/expertise/goals/programs/etc. and the end result is a super-duper awesome training ground and helpful blog called TheWebVideoAcademy.

AND I am lucky enough to have met both Susanna Hess and Bertram Heath Sr. online as well and look forward to networking more with them.

Without further ado, I would like to introduce Susanna Hess and an excerpt from her latest blog about the WebVideoAcademy which offers both a paid membership and free advice via their blog and a perfect addendum to my last blog post about how to produce and use video to promote your brand.

Susanna Hess Is Stepping Up Her Game!

You heard me right, I’m stepping it up!

I’m making a major change, that almost doesn’t even seem like a change. Perhaps a better word would be “improvement”, or even “upgrade”! ;)

As I’m sure you can tell by looking around this blog, I’m very passionate about video.

I love creating videos, editing videos, sharing videos, and even teaching others all I can about video!

I’ve taken it to the next level and would be THRILLED to have you join me.

How Can the Little Guy Stand out on the HUGE World Wide Web?

piggy bank

You guessed it! Video of course! Why video? I have stated this before but it bears repeating:

Online video is the future, the latest trend, and continues to rise in popularity. Key indicators point to corporations embracing online video as an essential marketing tool. In a 2008 Interactive Marketing study, Forrester Research predicted a compound annual growth rate of 72% through the year 2012 – the most robust of all interactive investments. Online video is expected to grow significantly more than search engine marketing, display ads, and email marketing.”

Watch the video below to see someone else’s perspective on the value of video:

But How Can the Small Business Owner Get on Board the Video Bandwagon?

Videos come in all different shapes, sizes, and price ranges. One does not have to be a professional actor/actress or a professional Videographer to be able to use video efficiently and cost-effectively to promote their brand. The easiest way to create a video is to turn on your webcam and speak. Most people today have a webcam built into their computers. There are some simple things you should take into consideration before you turn on your webcam, like lighting, and knowing ahead of time what you are going to say, but in general, it is basically as easy as turning on a switch. Using video in this manner creates a connection with your target market by putting a name, face, and personality behind your brand. People like to do business with people they know – video helps these people “know” you. It you as a small business owner, do nothing else but this type of video marketing, you are way ahead of the game. Think about all the different messages you can send simply by speaking these messages? You can create a welcome message for your website, talk about a new product or service, thank your customers…. the list goes on and on.

There are also other free or low-cost alternatives to creating video for you business. Animotooffers both free and low-cost video production options. There are some limitations with regards to having control over the effects and timings but for most people, this option is more than adequate. I am a little spoiled in being used to having complete control over these functions but I have also used this service when I need a quick video.

You can also create awesome and powerful videos using Microsoft PowerPoint which is what I use to create mine. PowerPoint 2010 has changed my life – literally – with the new “save as wmv” file option. Prior to upgrading to 2010, I was messing around with different low-cost software converters and was never completely satisfied with the results because the timings were always a little off. Upgrading to 2010 for the suggestion) was the best investment I have ever made making it a true pleasure to simply select the “save as wmv” option and know that my timings (that I do spend a considerable amount of time on) will convert exactly as they should.

Remember, it is all about branding and promoting your brand and using video is a means to that end.

Did you know that there are options available to help you make YOUR brand stand out for less than $50/month?  These options are available starting at $14.95/month. You can see samples of the products HERE. Learn MORE about the video marketing tools from MyVideoTalk HERE.

Did you know that Video Killed the Radio Star? Do you want it to kill your small business?

Google LOVES Video!

Video SEO

video sitemapsWe all know about SEO for our websites, but how many of us know about SEO for our videos?

What can you do to make sure your videos are found on Google? The answer is simple. Create and submit a video Sitemap. A video Sitemap includes a link to your video the title, description, play page URL, video thumbnail, and the URL of the original video.

The Discovery Channel provides a powerful case study for Google on the benefits of using video Sitemaps to drive traffic to their website.

As many of you know, I am NOT technical. OK – that is an understatement! I read all the helpful information on how to create a video Sitemap, watched the video below which makes it sound really easy to create a video Sitemap. All you need are the 5 items outlined very clearly in this video right? Well, it is a little more complicated than simply submitting those 5 items. Being a huge fan of video, I opted to use the Google XML Sitemap for Videos instead of trying to create my own. It will be interesting to see how my stats look on my videos after submitting my Sitemap.

Your turn. Do you submit a Sitemap to Google for your videos? If so, do you create your own or are you using a plugin?
