What is a Sales Funnel?

sales funnel A Sales Funnel is a System made up of 3 components to walk a prospect down a predetermined path with the outcome of getting more prospects to buy your products and/or join your business opportunity.

The 3 Key Components of a Sales Funnel are:

1) A Lead Capture Page (a web page to capture the contact info of prospects)
2) An Email Campaign (a series of email messages spread over time).
3) A Sales Page (a page to motivate prospects to buy your products and/or join your business opportunity.

Sales Funnels are Important for EVERYONE doing network Marketing but even MORE important for those in Network Marketing.

Without a Sales Funnel, if your distributors send prospects to their replicated website offered by their Network Marketing company, the prospects in most cases are NOT prompted (or required) to enter their contact info to learn more about your business. While that might appear to be a good thing initially, it actually can cost you a LOT of lost business because …

  • Your distributors would have NO idea when a prospect is on their website … and therefore no way to communicate with them when the prospect might be most interested in doing business with them.
  • Your distributors would have NO way to automatically follow up with prospects (because they didn’t capture their information) and as we all know, the Fortune Is In The Follow-Up!
  • Your distributors can NOT do targeted marketing and therefore your business won’t be as appealing to prospects and your sales will be lower.

In contrast, Sales Funnels have the unique ability to CAPTURE the contact information of prospects who visits a Lead Capture page and therefore we DO notify distributors IMMEDIATELY when a prospect is interested in your business rather than missing that opportunity that might never exist again!

As well, Sales Funnels Automatically Follow-Up with prospects by sending an Email Campaign (a series of email messages spread over time to educate prospects) so that a prospect is a LOT more likely to buy products and/or join your business.

Sales Funnels also can allow for Targeted Marketing so that prospects are a LOT more likely to see the value of buying your products/services and/or joining your business opportunity.  Doesn’t it make sense, that a college student fearful that they might not get a job when they graduate, has entirely different needs than a single mom who has very limited time and money, versus a baby boomer faced with the financial uncertainty of their future?

From “Blah” to “Wow”

Using Video Animations is a great way to entertain and inform your target market; they also help boost your conversion rate and increase sales. Animated videos are a cost-effective and efficient way to advertise your business in unique and creative ways. Remember, you only have about 3 seconds to capture and grab your viewer’s attention so it is important to use that incredibly small amount of time wisely!

The Power of Video & Customized Animations to Promote Your Brand

Everyone is overwhelmed with too much to do and not enough time to do it. We are all also inundated by so much advertising that most of what we hear falls on deaf ears. Rather than read about something we are interested in, most people would prefer to watch the same information. When given the choice between a human voice and something stimulating and eye-catching – the latter will win hands-down! Human beings like to be entertained. What better way to get what you want (more sales) by giving them what they want (entertainment)? Using entertaining video animations will increase the length of time people will listen to your message and increase the chances that you will get a sale either at that point in time, or later on when the potential buyer is ready to make a purchase, because “they” will remember “you”.

Consider this scenario. You have a somewhat complicated product to sell. You create a detailed PowerPoint presentation outlining the features and benefits of your product. Let’s even say that you get traffic to that presentation. Chances are the person who starts to watch your presentation is a potential customer or why else would they be on your site where the presentation is being housed? Now let’s consider that you have at least a few competitors. Your potential customer clicks “start” and immediately hears a human voice simply talking; their mind starts to wander and you have lost their attention. When they remember what they were looking for and at, they are already off to another site – probably your competitor’s site, to find something engaging enough to hold their attention so that they will “hear” the features and benefits of the product they are looking for. However, if you add some Pizzaz to your presentation, you will grab their attention and they will hang out longer to hear what you have to say.

If you grab people’s attention with engaging content, they are more likely to hang around longer JUST because it is creative, different, and memorable! Therefore, it is more likely that they will “listen” to your message. Your video can grab their attention visually at first – sometimes something a little out-of-the-box will do the trick. Now that you have their attention, if you use music, you are now engaging another one of their senses; the more senses your message engages, the more memorable your message. Voices alone can turn to Charlie Brown’s “whah whah whah whah” (unless the speaker is extremely engaging!).

A very large percentage of people prefer to receive information visually, so adding images, graphs, and cartoons to your video, will increase the likelihood that they will “listen to” and “hear” your message. In addition, visuals help store information in long-term memory better than text.

Music evokes emotions in people and has a powerful impact on the brain. Because purchase decisions are based on emotion (“What’s in it for me”?), music in your videos will enhance their ability to evoke an emotion in the viewer which is more likely to lead to a sale.

Let’s face it, learning can be boring. However, if you enhance your lesson or marketing message with creativity and entertainment, “they” are more likely to listen. If your videos are animated and there is a lot of action, this will also hold someone’s attention more than either text alone or a standard talking-head video.

Laughter is the world’s best medicine and a quick way to long-term memory. If you use humor in your videos, as long as it is appropriate and relevant, they are more likely to be remembered.

Have you used video animations in your marketing? May I strongly suggest you take a look at Presentermedia. They offer an incredible amount of valuable animated images, videos, and PowerPoint Presentations at an incredibly low annual cost that will truly knock your socks off! Check it out!

Did You Know that Elephants are More Intelligent than Humans?Elephant

Yup, that is what the scientists tell us.

The elephant brain is denser than the human’s, and the temporal lobes, associated with memory, are more developed than in humans. Elephant’s lobes also have more foldings, so that they can store more information. That’s why elephants have excellent memory.” (source). So here is the question, what has a better memory, the elephant or the Internet?

This post is actually following up on a comment by Rick Lelchuk about personal responsibility and how the onus of this responsibility falls on the individual. He used the memory of the Internet as an example, meaning if someone uses bad judgment once and blurts out something online without thinking of the long and far-reaching consequences of this action, it will haunt them for a very long time – because the Internet remembers.

I have heard of many specific examples where people are suffering from these unwanted consequences of “bad” Internet behavior – some not even by choice. One woman in particular was mentioned in an article about a scandalous case when she actually had nothing to do with the case; she came on the scene after the incident. This is actually not an example of personal responsibility, as she had nothing to do with it, but it is a good example of the very long memory of the Internet. Her name still appears on the first page in Google, and although it doesn’t say anything negative about her, we all know about “guilt by association”. Couple that with the fact that many people don’t read beyond the first paragraph or so and tend to make judgments based on perhaps only half of the facts. How many times have you heard someone say, “I read a review about such-and-such and it proves the product (or service) is crappy’, yet if you check out the same review, you might often find the second, third, fourth, etc. reviews are actually positive?

Take another example of someone losing their cool online and acting unprofessionally – as we have all seen. This person’s comment will be showing up in Google for a lot longer than he or she will appreciate – no doubt. There are reputation management companies out there specifically for the purposes of managing and/or helping re-build business’ reputation. Have you seen examples of people saying something online that has left its mark on their reputation? No names please :)

Is There a Right Way and a Wrong Way to Behave While Networking?

NetworkingYes! There are certain agreed upon behaviors that are not considered acceptable when networking on and offline. Jumping right in with a sales pitch is frowned upon in both online and offline social networking. Would you go to a wedding or a Bar Mitzvah and try to sell the other guests your blue widgets? No – I wouldn't think so. And if you did, you would more than likely find that others steer clear of you.

If you are part of an online community and all you do is talk about yourself and your product, you will either be tagged as a spammer or in some cases, asked to leave the group. As we all know, there are TONS of social networking sites out there and it becomes our challenge to decide which ones provide the most value for us and which ones we will devote our valuable time to. I have found that some of these networks are akin to large numbers of people standing in a stadium all just shouting out their marketing message, not listening to anyone else, and not engaging in any conversations. Needless-to-say, I do not participate in those groups. Why should I? I don't need to listen to myself speak – I already know what I have to say, right?

confusedA few days ago I noticed that my Feedburner feed was not updating so I began the long, confusing journey to find out why and fix it.

Easier said than done. On my journey, I discovered from the Troubleshooting option at Feedburner.com that there was a problem with my original feed at Feedburner that I needed to fix in addition to a 404 error. Of course, the exact "problem" of my original feed was not disclosed. So I decided to paste this original URL in a browser and was quite perplexed by what I found. My original feed URL was automatically redirecting to another site that was not mine. How did I know it wasn't mine? It was in Chinese and I don't speak Chinese. I found it even more perplexing that the URL of this redirected feed was MY URL yet the feed was obviously not mine.

I continued on my journey by trying to determine exactly where this problem originated from. Was it my web server? No, they said it was not. Was it WordPress? I have no idea because I didn't get any response to my posting on their forum. Was it Feedburner? Again, I have no idea because no one answered me on that forum either. It was somewhat comforting to read that others have had similar problems (although I didn't read about anyone else's feed linking to a Chinese blog). WordPress did indeed have postings from others with the same issue that were resolved usually by uninstalling a plugin which was causing the problem. But, alas, I wasn't using any of the same plugins that seemed to be the culprit for others. However, I did follow their suggestions and uninstalled each of my plugins to see if perhaps they were causing my issues.  They weren't.

Tonight I decided to try again to see if anything made sense. To my pleasant surprise, my original feed URL was no longer redirecting to the Chinese blog. As I did absolutely nothing since the last time I checked, perhaps this was some sort of divine intervention? Who knows, I am just grateful that I don't have to learn Chinese.

I read through many more forums, tried to ping my feed several times, uninstalled and reinstalled my plugins yet again and still nothing. As there was nothing else I could think of trying, I went back to work. Several hours later, I decided to give it another try. I repinged with success. I confirmed that the redirection to the Chinese blog was still gone and tried unsuccessfully again to resync my feed. I received the same error message I have been receiving all along with the resync option in Feedburner.

Just for the heck of it, I checked out both my original and my feed URL and guess what? Both feeds are now updated even though I am still getting the error message when trying to resync.

I have absolutely no idea why my feeds are all of a sudden working and can't help but wonder what I might find tomorrow.

The morale of the story? Beats me but maybe I should consider calling Ghost Busters as there are times I am convinced there is a Poltergeist living inside my computer!

internetToday I dared to open one of the archived newsletters from Entrepreneur. Since I am a web designer I don’t like reading titles such as this: Does Your Business Still Need a Website?

The article discusses the idea of establishing accounts on social media sites such as Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn instead of a website. They evaluated an individual for whom this business strategy worked out. You can read the whole article here. Before giving out my space to social networks, I would like to look into this discussion further and let you know my opinion.

Rudy Mendoza totally abandoned his corporate website saying “We spent tens of thousands of dollars on our website and got almost nothing out of it” I’m really sorry for the designer team who created the website for Rudy Mendoza. They didn’t do a great job. A good website can be profitable.

3 Main Reasons Why Businesses Shouldn’t Ditch Websites for Social Networks:

1. Social networks serve a different purpose than a website. They serve as a tool to communicate directly with customers and achieve real time feedback. The functions of third party applications are complementary to a website but should not replace them.

2. Most social networks are found to be useful when companies and individuals link to additional information about them. Social networks are just a platform to jump from, not to jump into.

3. A website can drive as much sales as, and often times more than these social media networks. Although I have achieved leads and sales from social networking sites, the majority of my business has come from my website.

A brand cannot live without a good website that provides their customers additional information or the ability to purchase the product/service they are interested in. If the company tries to remove this component they risk damaging their branding. Who said you can’t have your cake and eat it too?

Companies should use websites and social media networks to market their products or services. Why should you have to choose when you can use both?

Note: I use social media networks and find that they have been useful in increasing brand awareness for Furlong Design but I would never forgo my corporate website for those sites. Let me know what you think by leaving comments below. Original source: http://furlongdesign.com/2010/04/14/does-your-business-still-need-a-website/
