Welcome to the Social Media Network War
Move over Facebook, Google+ is here! Or not? What are your thoughts about what impact Google+ will have on the use of Facebook? Do you feel like you are caught in the middle of the battle of the social networks? Well, we are
Take a look at the video below from Rooster Teeth – it is too funny not to share! Enjoy!
So the WHOLE world is on Facebook right? I heard on the news a few weeks ago that in the US, 6 million people deleted their Facebook profiles. According to Facebook’s statistics, there are over 500 million active Facebook users and 30% of them are in the United States. Although 6 million sounds like a really HUGE number, in perspective of total users, it is a drop in the bucket. Take a quick look at a few more statistics:
There are over 900 million objects that people interact with (pages, groups, events and community pages)
More than 30 billion pieces of content (web links, news stories, blog posts, notes, photo albums, etc.) shared each month.
Entrepreneurs and developers from more than 190 countries build with Facebook Platform
Every month, more than 250 million people engage with Facebook on external websites
There are more than 250 million active users currently accessing Facebook through their mobile devices.
What Does This Mean?
There is a heck of a lot of activity going on in the Facebook World – period!

Remember, Don’t Underestimate the Value of a Relationship. As an aside, the powers-that-be behind iFBtv are great guys! You know, that “relationship” thing!
I know I told Rob that my next post was not going to be about video and I didn't intend to but came across something rather interesting.
We are all here trying like crazy to increase our brand presence and increase our bottom line and the kids today are out there posting videos on Youtube that are spreading like wildfire without even trying. I find that very interesting. What do they know that we don't? Perhaps it is the power of video?
Below is a video of my daughter singing with her friends who have a band. There were 9,409 views of this video. When I pointed it out to her she was just not impressed but boy was I! Now as her mother, I would have preferred her singing a song like Edelweiss, but…… Below this video is a really funny one about Facebook etiquette. Enjoy!
For small business owners, this statement is true and lends support to the power of video in promoting their brand. However, when it comes to those with less stellar intentions, it can be quite dangerous.
Fox News reports in Digital Photos Hide Data — and Cyberstalkers Can Find It, Expert Warns: "… few people realize they may be giving away more than they plan to when they post even the most innocuous photos from their Blackberry phones or Apple iPhones." Through the use of geotags (a GPS stamp), criminals and stalkers are able to track the exact location a person is in when they take and post a photo.
Luckily, there is a way to protect yourself from this tracking as long as you are aware of it. This geotagging functionality is easily disabled and in my opinion, is something everyone needs to know, especially the young people today who post many photos on Facebook directly. How scary is it that our children can inadvertently disclose not only where they hang out but also where they live?
The ICanStalkU.com website has details on how to disable geotagging. PLEASE share this information with everyone you know who uses their smart phones to upload pictures – especially the young people – our children! My daughter posted the Fox article on her FB page – thank you Alexandra. Let's help keep others safe by sharing…
Unless you live in a cave, you have heard of Facebook. Everyone has heard of Facebook. It has literally blown MySpace out of the water with its popularity as THE leading social online network. People awaited the release of the movie about the creation of Facebook "The Social Network" with baited breath looking forward to seeing how this HUGE social network came to be. Creator, Mark Zuckerberg, became a hero – an idol – as someone they wanted to adopt (that would be me) because of his absolutely enormous success with Facebook.
Today CNN published an article "Facebook overhauling inbox, combining e-mail, texting and IM" about how Facebook will be providing each of the 500 million users with their own email address inside their messaging system in an effort to dominate the messaging marketing. This program will be rolled out in the next couple of weeks.
What do you think of this attempt by Facebook to be THE source of all of your emails? Personally, I have concerns about the privacy issues Facebook has had and will continue to have and am not so anxious to turn my emails over to Facebook.
Who knew? I didn't when one of the vendors I work with emailed me a few weeks ago asking me if Facebook users had their own Facebook web address. She had a client who wanted to add his Facebook address to his business cards and she reached out to me to see what I knew about them. As I didn't know anything about it, that is what I told her. (I did just send her an updated email with the correct information). I did know that one could get a personalized URL for a page, but didn't know that we could do the same for our personal FaceBook profiles.
Some of you are probably thinking to yourselves, "Duh Julie, this has been around for months"! If you are one of those people, why didn't you tell me?
In any event, for those of you who – like me – are busy doing a hundred things at once and might miss something new and neat, you can now have your own Facebook web address. Read Memorable Web Addresses for Profile, Page or Group and get your own.
